Urs Fischer odds slashed to be new West Brom manager in shock twist
Urs Fischer has emerged in the running to be the new West Brom manager, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
SkyBet listed the former Union Berlin manager, 58, as a 20/1 outsider on Tuesday morning (7 January). However, the odds on the Swiss boss replacing Carlos Corberan at The Hawthorns have since been slashed to 12/1.
As it stands, only Raphael Wicky (6/5), John Eustace (5/2) and Steven Schumacher (4/1) are more likely with the bookies to be appointed by the Baggies than Fischer.
Who is new West Brom manager candidate Urs Fischer?
Fischer is probably a manager who West Brom fans should be very excited about.
The 58-year-old is a former Switzerland international who spent his playing career with FC Zurich and St Gallen.
After hanging up his boots after over 300 appearances with Zurich and rising through the ranks of youth coaching, he became their manager in 2010.
After two years, he was fired and landed a new job at Thun, who also play in the Swiss league.

He took them to the Europa League group stages for the first time in their history in 2013/14 and won the Swiss manager of the year award in 2014.
Fischer’s good work at Thun saw Swiss giants Basel hire him in 2015, where he went on to win two Swiss Super League titles and the 2016/17 Swiss Cup.
The Triengen-born manager’s most accomplished spell then came at Union Berlin in Germany.
In his first season in the German capital, he won promotion to the Bundesliga after beating Stuttgart on away goals in a promotion play-off.
He then continued that upward trajectory by sealing a seventh-placed finish in the Bundesliga to qualify for the first ever Europa Conference League.
The following season, Fischer led Union to fifth place and a spot in the Europa league and then, in 2022/23, Union Berlin finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League and seal him the award of the Football Manager of the Year in Germany.
