West Brom forward deal terminated early as official announcement made

West Brom have terminated Reyes Cleary’s season-long loan contract at Walsall.

The Baggies announced via their website on 7 January that the 20-year-old has returned from his stint with the League Two side.

He moved to Walsall on a one-year agreement in August but has returned to the Hawthorns earlier than expected.

West Brom to offload Reyes Cleary after Walsall struggles

The Championship club sent Cleary out on loan to Walsall in the summer to help him get regular playing time under his belt.

However, the right-footed striker amassed just 86 minutes of League Two action in the first half of the season, with his only goal for them coming in a 3-0 EFL Trophy win against Shrewsbury on 11 December.

While West Brom did not clarify the reason behind Cleary returning early, it is evident that they were not happy with his progress with the Saddlers.

It now remains to be seen what the future holds for the centre-forward at The Hawthorns.

It is hard to see him claw his way into the first-team plans at Albion after struggling to earn regular playing time two divisions below.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that West Brom look to sell Cleary during the ongoing January transfer window.

Such a transfer would give him a clean slate elsewhere and opportunity to show what he is capable of at first-team level.

If that does not come to fruition, Albion will likely seek another loan move for the youngster.

Either way, it is hard to see Cleary remain at The Hawthorns beyond January.
