West Brom board the ‘real deal’ as ‘proper coup’ tipped to be new manager

Urs Fischer has become another name linked with the vacant West Brom manager’s job, as supporters have had their say.

The experienced Swiss coach, 58, has been out of managerial work since 2023 but has an encouraging CV which includes three domestic trophies with Basel, and a stint of over five years at Union Berlin during which he took the German side from the second division to the Champions League.

The Baggies are still seeking a long-term successor to Carlos Corberan, who left for Valencia on Christmas Eve; Chris Brunt is currently in interim charge at The Hawthorns.

West Brom fans buzzing over Fischer links

With Fischer said to be an outsider but in the running nonetheless, Albion supporters have perked up following the rollercoaster of updates they have been hearing since Corberan’s departure.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Fischer is priced at 11/1 with Sky Bet to take the reins at The Hawthorns, with only three coaches in at shorter odds: Raphael Wicky, John Eustace and Steven Schumacher.

Supporters have taken to X to air their views, the large majority of which appear in heavy favour of the decorated Swiss.

Baggies fans, who are undoubtedly riddled with anxiety over whether the board will make an appointment of which they are onside, have branded Fischer “superb” and a “proper coup” should he sign at The Hawthorns.

Others have admitted the prospect of his arrival is unlikely, but remain in optimism over how the managerial hunt will further progress.
