West Brom next manager: Rene Hake update shared by Sky Sports after Wicky blow
Rene Hake remains an option for West Brom in their hunt for a new manager, according to Sky Sports.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (13 January, 2:54 pm), reporter Vicky Gomersall shared an update on the potential of Hake taking over at The Hawthorns after the Baggies’ move for Raphael Wicky suddenly broke down [via John Percy, 13 January].
Hake held talks with West Brom previously, and Gomersall has now provided the latest.
“Talks have ended between Wicky and West Brom over the head coach job,” she said. “It’s understood they couldn’t agree on his backroom staff.
“Albion are now considering their options. One option is Hake, who was assistant to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. It does remain to be seen if Albion will rekindle discussions with Hake.”
West Brom to rekindle talks with Rene Hake?
Many fans will be shocked to learn that Wicky won’t be taking over at The Hawthorns.
It seemed as though that deal was all set to go ahead, and failure to finalise terms might leave a bad taste in the mouths of some of those involved in negotiations. However, there is no time to sit around and sulk, the Baggies must press on with their search.
It has been weeks since Carlos Corberan left the club, and fans will be desperate for some clarity on the managerial situation. Therefore, if Hake is available, and talks have been held previously, this could be a convenient situation to revisit, with the 53-year-old re-emerging as favourite for the job.

Some might argue that this wouldn’t be the most exciting appointment, as it would almost seem as though the club are backtracking and revisiting an old candidate after missing out on the man they wanted.
However, a decision just needs to be made, as this merry-go-round can’t afford to go on much longer.
In other West Brom news, the club have contacted Sean Dyche and a second manager.
