Armstrong winner named as midfielder jets out amid West Brom and Sheff Weds news
West Brom have lost out on the chance to sign Stuart Armstrong who will now join Sheffield Wednesday, according to Canadian Soccer Daily.
The report on Armstrong (30 January) from across the pond reveals the Scotland midfielder has jetted back to the UK from his spell in MLS to complete a permanent transfer to Hillsborough, as the Baggies attempt to no avail to secure his signature (DOOD, 28 January).
Armstrong, 32, is flying from current club Vancouver Whitecaps’ training camp in Marbella to Sheffield to sign the deal, as Albion are forced to pursue other targets.
West Brom miss out on Stuart Armstrong
West Brom will be disappointed to miss out on an experienced midfield player with an eye for goal, but still do boast an array of talent.
Tony Mowbray had recently spoken of the Baggies’ attempts to attract young project players to The Hawthorns, whom he can then give the freedom of expression on the pitch.
Albion still have their fair share of experience in the building despite the players they lost last summer and while Armstrong would have been a capable pair of hands, it is not the end of the world.

Sheffield Wednesday will be eager to complete the deal for a player who has extensive Premier League experience during his time at Southampton, but the Baggies will now focus on other targets after already securing one young midfielder in Isaac Price.
For now, a trip to Plymouth Argyle beckons before Armstrong could well visit The Hawthorns the following week (8 February), as a Sheffield Wednesday player.
In other West Brom news, focus turns to a Tottenham forward for whom Albion are pushing on a loan deal.
