Uros Racic breaks silence on West Brom exit from new club already

Uros Racic has wished West Brom “all the best” after his season-long loan spell at The Hawthorns ended prematurely.

Racic posted on his Instagram story (2 February) after completing a move to Portuguese side Braga on loan for the rest of the season, with Sassuolo agreeing to terminate his spell with the Baggies early.

The Serbian international said he regretted Carlos Corberan’s departure from The Hawthorns on Christmas Eve but was hopeful that Albion could achieve promotion to the Premier League without him.

Racic said: “I regret that we didn’t achieve more and that our coach left just as we hit our best form. I wanted to see West Brom in the Premier League, but sometimes things don’t go as planned.

“I would like to thank the wonderful fans and teammates for the great time we shared, as well as the club for accommodating me and allowing me to once again be part of a great club like Braga and to follow my dreams.

“All the best.”

Uros Racic message won’t wash for West Brom fans

Although Racic doesn’t leave The Hawthorns with any bad blood, the suggestion that Corberan’s exit put paid to his own Albion career won’t go down well for fans who were never really convinced by the Serb.

Racic still only made eight Championship starts under Corberan in the first half of this season, with both the Spaniard and his replacement Tony Mowbray preferring the Alex Mowatt-Jayson Molumby axis.

Molumby has also signed Isaac Price since making his return to The Hawthorns, pushing Racic further onto the periphery, but had the 26-year-old been in form, no additions would have been needed.

Racic’s departure does free up a loan spot for the Baggies to make use of before Monday’s 11pm deadline, but given the transfer window is now in its final throes, any deal could be too late to sanction.

Albion fans won’t exactly look back fondly on Racic’s time in the West Midlands, but if promotion is achieved at season’s end, they’ll acknowledge the small part he played in getting them there.
