West Brom fans buzzing as Mowbray favourite left out of squad – ‘Got our club back’
West Brom travel to take on relegation battlers Cardiff City in the Championship on Saturday.
With just two games left to play, including Saturday’s clash with the Baggies, the Bluebirds are vying to save their second tier status.
Meanwhile, West Brom are looking to enjoy a positive start to life under interim boss James Morrison after Tony Mowbray was sacked after the Black Country outfit lost to Derby on Easter Monday.
The Baggies have dropped out of the playoff race after winning just one game in eight attempts in the Championship.

West Brom fans delighted as Morrison leaves out John Swift
Baggies interim boss Morrison has already succeeded in pleasing the Albion faithful by choosing to leave John Swift out of his matchday squad for Saturday’s visit to Cardiff.
One supporter wrote on X: “Whitwell over Swift, we have our club back”, while another user said: “Swift banished Jimmy Morrison, the man that you are.”
West Brom must enjoy a positive end to the season
The Baggies’ goal at the start of the season was to land a playoff spot for the second consecutive season after finishing fifth under former boss Carlos Corberan last term.
Opponent | Result |
Bristol City (A) | 2-1 L |
Watford (H) | 2-1 W |
Coventry (A) | 2-0 L |
Derby (H) | 1-3 L |
However, courtesy of Mowbray’s disappointing return to The Hawthorns, after Corberan departed the West Midlands in favour of joining Valencia, West Brom are now set to compete in the Championship next season.
The Albion’s playoff aspirations have dried up, but supporters will still be desperate to see their side enjoy a strong ending to an otherwise disappointing campaign.
Morrison’s side should fancy their chances of beating Cardiff, as the Welsh side look destined for League One, having failed to win since their 2-1 triumph over Blackburn on 15 March.
However, the Bluebirds will be determined to avoid relegation to the third tier.
West Brom, though, will be eager to win both of their last two games, while they host a struggling Luton outfit on the final day of the campaign.
