Tony Mowbray already in frame for Championship job after recent West Brom sack

West Brom are currently searching for a new manager after parting ways with club icon Tony Mowbray in recent weeks.

The Baggies endured a tough Championship season as they lost Carlos Corberan halfway through the campaign, but former boss Mowbray made a surprise return to replace him.

However, West Brom’s form dropped massively in the second half of the season, and Mowbray departed after they fell out of play-off contention.

Mowbray’s reputation may not have taken a big hit, though, as he is now already being eyed up by another Championship club.

Hull City interested in Mowbray

Championship strugglers Hull City eventually stayed up in the second division on goal difference, finishing in 21st place.

Ruben Selles helped them achieve survival, but it appears that Mowbray is now being eyed up to replace him as manager despite Hull staying up ahead of Luton Town.

Radio Humberside journalist Mike White has now revealed that Selles is likely to be dismissed by Hull, with Mowbray a candidate to replace him.

“Clarity needed for fans, but sources still say a change at manager is most likely despite Ruben Selles keeping Hull City up. Tony Mowbray is a name in the frame if so,” he posted on X.

Mowbray to recover from West Brom disappointment

Mowbray’s return to The Hawthorns should have been a magical one, with the 61-year-old a popular figure among the fans after an iconic stint at the club between 2006 and 2009.

However, his return was clearly not the right answer to replace Corberan, and both he and the Baggies needed to move in different directions.

West Brom have been linked with Ryan Mason as his replacement, while Mowbray may be keen to get straight back into management further down the Championship table.

Mowbray will hope that if he does take the Hull job, he will fare better than he did with his former club as they chased promotion, moving into next season.

Being at a club fighting for survival instead may suit Mowbray, with his brand of football proving unpopular at West Brom given their attacking resources compared to the likes of Hull.
