Paul Simonis on West Brom shortlist after major cup success in new manager update
West Brom’s managerial hunt may be finally coming to an end in the coming weeks.
The Baggies have been without a manager since Tony Mowbray was sacked in April after his failure to secure the play-offs.
As a result, multiple names have been linked to West Brom, including Gary O’Neil and Ryan Mason.
Now, after over a month of searching, the Baggies may be close to appointing a new head coach, with Go Ahead Eagles boss Paul Simonis the latest name.

Simonis considered by West Brom after Mason update
Ryan Mason remains the favourite to take over at West Brom. The Tottenham coach has long been linked with the post, and developments are heating up.
An official approach from West Brom for Mason is expected in the coming days as they look to have a new manager for pre-season.
However, Mason’s appointment at The Hawthorns is not a guarantee, which could lead to Simonis.
According to Sky Sports on their blog (28 May, 7:11 am), Simonis has been included on the West Brom shortlist alongside Marti Cifuentes.

The manager is currently in charge of the Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles, where he won the Dutch Cup in 2025 with a shock victory.
The 40-year-old has only been in charge of the one club since stepping into management in 2024.

Simonis is too inexperienced for West Brom job
One of the key concerns of Simonis is his lack of experience. The Dutchman has shown early signs that he could be a promising manager, but it is too early to give him a job at West Brom.
Unlike Mason, Simonis has no experience in the English pyramid, and there is no evidence that he would be able to adapt his playing style to suit the Baggies.
Promotion to the Premier League is vital in the coming seasons, and risks cannot be taken.
While the 40-year-old may be a good backup option, West Brom should consider multiple over candidates before appointing Simonis.
