Darren Moore announces reunion with ex-West Brom ally at Port Vale

West Brom are entering a pivotal chapter in its history by appointing Ryan Mason as new manager.

An inexperienced appointment that has raised some concerns ahead of next season, but the Baggies have a history of backing unconventional coaches.

During their relegation-hit 2018/19 season, West Brom turned to Darren Moore to guide the club through the final games.

His impact was immediate, including a memorable victory over Manchester United in late April, which gave the Baggies hope for the following season.

After Tony Mowbray’s sacking, the former Albion defender was linked to the role before Mason was appointed following Moore’s strong season at Port Vale.

Port Vale recruitment rekindles old partnership

Lee Darnbrough has been named the new head of recruitment at Port Vale, reuniting with manager Moore.

The pair previously worked together at West Brom during the 2018/19 season when Moore was in charge.

Speaking to Port Vale TV, the 51-year-old praised Darnbrough’s appointment ahead of next season.

“Lee is a senior head of recruitment, so he comes with a huge wealth of experience,” said Moore. “I’ve known Lee a long time from our days working together at West Brom. He is somebody who I have already kept in contact with over the years as we have had different roles at different clubs.

“He’s somebody that is very much aligned to our thinking, he’s somebody with a lot of experience in the game, really smart, really astute, and I think he further enhances the recruitment department and the staffing structure of the club.

“I’m pleased to have him on board. It’s something that was spoken about for some time; it’s not a knee-jerk reaction. As we are trying to build a team on the pitch, structurally we are trying to build a football club too, and that’s really important.”

West Brom’s summer window crucial under new boss

The Baggies face a crucial summer transfer window under Mason as they target new signings ahead of next season.

However, Shilen Patel may be forced into action in the transfer market as the club loses parachute payments following four years outside the Premier League.

Recently, the club has been linked with a move for central defender Gora Diouf from FC Sion, one of their primary targets.

Mason’s links to Spurs could prove helpful as the Baggies are linked with several youngsters from the London club.

The club will also be hopeful that key players don’t depart, with Tom Fellows being linked with a move away.

However, if Mason and the club keep key players and recruit well, they could challenge for Premier League football next season.
