West Brom transfer round up: ‘Aston Villa player to join’, medical now booked

West Brom’s pre-season preparations stepped up a notch on Friday when they played their first summer friendly.

Ryan Mason’s side has been in Austria for a training camp, and their trip concluded with a 1-1 draw with Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv.

The Baggies will now fly back into the UK this weekend, as preparations continue to ramp up for the new Championship campaign, which is now just a few weeks away.

Mason will surely be hopeful of adding a few more fresh faces to his squad ahead of the big kick-off against Blackburn Rovers on 9 August.

West Brom never agreed a fee for Mikey Johnston’s exit

Mikey Johnston is set to stay at West Brom after his shock move to Flamengo broke down, seemingly because of medical issues relating to the winger.

However, it has now emerged that the Baggies never agreed on a fee for Johnston’s departure, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook (12 July).

It is understood that the 26-year-old never underwent a medical, as a result of the two clubs’ inability to agree on terms, and that he never personally committed himself to the move.

Crook also added that Johnston is thought to be perfectly content in B71.

Yasin Ozcan ‘to join from Aston Villa

West Brom have been tipped to complete the loan signing of Yasin Ozcan from Aston Villa.

The 19-year-old has recently joined the B6 outfit after his signing was announced in February, and he already boasts impressive experience in the Turkish Super Lig.

Martin Allen has speculated that Unai Emery could be about to sanction a loan exit for the defender, and has suggested that he could be well-suited to playing Championship football next term.

Ozcan could be a sensible option for Mason and Co., and could be a good replacement for Kyle Bartley if his exit materialises this summer.
