Mikey Johnston sends new message as transfer now confirmed away from West Brom

Mikey Johnston has been the man in the spotlight at West Brom recently.

The Irish winger was linked with a spectacular £5million move to Brazilian giants Flamengo earlier this month.

Ultimately, that deal fell through after fan backlash, and Johnston was denied a dream move away from The Hawthorns.

He will now play a part in the Ryan Mason revolution with the West Midlands club.

Johnston sends message as Swift confirms Portsmouth return

John Swift left West Brom after his contract expired on June 30, after three years in the Black Country.

Campeador Sports Management took to Instagram (15 July) to announce that their client, Swift, has signed with Portsmouth.

Johnston reacted to the post by sharing it on to his story, with a message, saying: “Go on Wazza, ball player.”

West Brom allowed Swift to leave at the right time

The prospect of Swift notching a goal against Albion is a daunting one but they made the right decision on whether to extend his contract.

The relationship between the player and fans had soured, and an exit was the best solution for all parties in the end.

He notched just three goals and one assist in 36 Championship matches as Albion missed out on the playoffs in a dismal campaign.

Getting his wages off the books should be a help for Shilen Patel and Co as they look to improve the Profit and Sustainability situation, especially amid Swift’s poor form last season.

He will now link up with former West Brom managerial candidate John Mousinho, who was one of the favourites for the role before Mason was appointed.

Baggies supporters will wish him well at his new club, and it does seem like a fairytale ending to his career, going back to the place where it all began.

However, Mason and supporters will now be focused on their own business, and an attempt to return to the Premier League after a five-year absence.

The signings of Nat Phillips and Aune Heggebo have given the Baggies a renewed optimism about their prospects for the new season, but more work needs to be done in the market.
