West Brom could sign McConnell ‘soon’ as EFL transfer rules detailed
West Brom have already made several permanent signings as Ryan Mason stamps his mark at The Hawthorns.
Defence is evidently a priority for the 34-year-old, with Nat Phillips and George Campbell through the West Brom doors.
The Baggies have also added more firepower, with Aune Heggebo joining Josh Maja and Daryl Dike as forward options.
James McConnell has also been credited with a move to the West Midlands as the EFL set out their transfer rules for the new season.

West Brom line up McConnell transfer amid Championship interest
West Brom are interested in signing McConnell, along with clubs from the Championship and Germany.
The central midfielder was left out of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia with an injury and is expected to be loaned out.
Ipswich Town and Derby County are also keen on the 20-year-old, who has made 13 senior appearances for the Reds.
Now, Albion may soon make a move for McConnell, according to Express & Star (23 July).
They report that a handful of other Championship clubs are set to rival the Baggies in the race to sign the highly rated midfielder.
EFL loan rules explained amid McConnell update
Albion, along with the rest of the EFL, must utilise the loan market as it presents the opportunity to acquire Premier League talent at little cost.
Moreover, Jayson Molumby is a prime example of how a successful loan can sometimes turn into a permanent signing.
The Express & Star reports that, according to EFL rules, clubs can bring in over five loan players; however, only five can be included in their matchday squad for any given game.
Competition | Appearances | Goal contributions |
Premier League | 3 | 0 |
Champions League | 1 | 0 |
Europa League | 3 | 0 |
FA Cup | 4 | 1 |
EFL Cup | 2 | 0 |
Furthermore, of the loan players brought in, they must register any loan signing as part of their 25-man squad that is submitted to the EFL at the start of every season.
Teams can also register a maximum of four players from one side, but this is a rule that rarely impacts them.
Much of the loan activity tends to occur later in the window when clubs have a better idea of which players will be required.
McConnell looks like he would be a promising addition for any Championship side, and he could soon be a West Brom player.
