Lankshear set for shock Spurs exit destination as West Brom get transfer answer

West Brom are keen to add further attacking depth to their squad in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

The Baggies have already signed Aune Heggebo but injuries to Tammer Bany and Daryl Dike, combined with the potential departure of Devante Cole, could again leave Ryan Mason short of options.

West Brom have also added centre-backs Nat Phillips and George Campbell to their squad this summer, but have struggled to add further signings since.

Lankshear set for Championship loan

Mason was reportedly keen to reunite with Tottenham youngster Will Lankshear at The Hawthorns.

The Englishman coached the striker during his time in North London, with the connection expected to hand West Brom an advantage in the race.

Lankshear spent the second half of last season with the Baggies and impressed at times, despite being afforded limited minutes on the pitch.

And when opportunities did come for the striker, he would often be asked to play slightly deeper than the last line – a role which restricts his strengths.

Mason’s trust in the 20-year-old’s ability and knowledge of his best position would have been expected to solve those issues for Lankshear, but Spurs look to have opted against sending the England Under-20 international back to The Hawthorns.

Instead, according to Jason Burt via X (4 August), the forward is expected to sign on loan for Oxford United in a shock move, with the deal seen as a real coup for the U’s.

West Brom must look elsewhere

With the Championship set to return this week, West Brom cannot afford to spend too much time licking their wounds.

The signing of Lankshear would have made plenty of sense for the Baggies given the connection to Mason, but other options are out there.

And some of them remain available at Spurs. Instead, West Brom could make a move for Yang Min-hyeok, who, despite not being a striker, would undoubtedly provide Mason with an element of the attacking depth he desires.

The South Korean talent spent the second half of last season in the Championship with QPR, and is expected to re-join the league this summer, aided by the experience he gained during the last campaign.
