Torbjorn Heggem ‘finished at West Brom’ amid major Bologna update

Torbjorn Heggem has been continuously linked with a move away from West Brom over the last few weeks.

The Norwegian centre-back was one of the key performers for the Baggies last term, but could now be heading for the exit just over a year into his time with them.

West Brom have been facing interest in Heggem from Bologna, and the Italian side are already understood to have tabled an offer.

Ryan Mason’s side began their campaign with a victory over Blackburn Rovers last weekend, but they could now be about to face a major kick in the teeth regarding one of their key players.

Bologna to ramp up Heggem pursuit after Cande failure

The prospect of Heggem remaining at West Brom had been given a major shot in the arm recently with the news that Bologna had turned their attention towards an alternative target.

The Serie A giants had earmarked Venezia’s Fali Cande as another potential option, should they fail to secure the signature of the Baggies star.

However, any prospect of them landing the Guinea-Bissau international has now completely evaporated, as his arrival was instead announced by Sassuolo on Sunday night.

That news will surely have alarm bells ringing at The Hawthorns, as it could easily result in Bologna upping their interest in Heggem.

Their initial bid was not far from the valuation that the B71 outfit have set for the defender, and with their alternative option now off the table, it would be no surprise to see Bologna come back with another bid in the next few days.

Heggem’s departure would be a big blow for West Brom

Heggem enjoyed an excellent season for West Brom in his first campaign in English football last time out, and his departure could have huge effects on their fortunes this time around.

The 26-year-old was undoubtedly the Baggies’ best defender in the Championship in 2024/25, and if he were to leave with just a few weeks of the transfer window remaining, it would create a major issue for Mason and his staff.

Not only would they be losing a player who is arguably the first name on the teamsheet, but they would also be left with very little time to source a capable replacement.

The new boss will likely have wanted to cnduct his transfer business as early as possible to ensure a strong squad was in place, but West Brom could now be about to get significantly weaker just a short while away from the 1 September deadline.
