Wrexham v West Brom preview: Team news, likely lineup, score prediction

West Brom will look to bounce back against Wrexham after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Derby on Tuesday.

West Brom were dominant for the most part against the Rams. However, after a last-minute equaliser to make it 1-1, the Baggies were beaten on penalties at The Hawthorns on 12 August.

Now, attention turns back to the league for Ryan Mason’s side, who face a tough test against newly promoted Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, 16 August.

While the Baggies were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the first round, Wrexham got past Hull City, winning their penalty shoot-out after a 3-3 draw at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday. Therefore, the hosts will be confident heading into the clash.

However, West Brom secured a 1-0 victory over Blackburn in their Championship opener at The Hawthorns on Saturday, 9 August. As a result, they will be optimistic of making it two wins from two in the league.

Here, at West Brom News, we predict the Baggies’ third game of the season as well as provide you with the latest team news and predicted lineup.

Team news

Aune Heggebo looks set to be allowed to continue his fine form for West Brom against Wrexham.

The Norwegian bagged a goal against Derby and was the provider for Isaac Price’s goal against Blackburn.

Joe Wildsmith is expected to be immediately replaced by Josh Griffiths after his shocker against the Rams, which cost them the game.

Darnell Furlong and Nat Phillips are expected to return to the starting lineup, having been replaced by Caleb Taylor and Alex Williams.

The Albion look set to be without Torbjorn Heggem, who is close to leaving The Hawthorns, and he is likely to be replaced by George Campbell in defence.

Predicted lineup

West Brom: Griffiths, Styles, Campbell, Phillips, Furlong, Mowatt, Molumby, Price, Fellows, Johnston, Heggebo

Wrexham: Okonkwo, Brunt, Coady, Cleworth, Longman, Dobson, O’Brien, James, Cacace, Windass, Hardie

Predicted lineup vs Wrexham

Prediction: Wrexham 1-1 West Brom

Wrexham looked strong in their opening day encounter and only lost out due to two last-minute goals.

The Welsh side comes into the game with confidence after coming back from 3-1 down to beat Hull in the cup.

Meanwhile, Mason’s side won’t be too downbeat about their defeat to Derby after such a dominant performance.

Phillips, in particular, was defensively solid against Blackburn, so the Baggies are expected to limit Wrexham’s opportunities.
