James McClean makes admission in message about Wrexham defeat v West Brom
James McClean has delivered a stark admission in the aftermath of West Brom’s 3-2 victory over Wrexham on Saturday.
The Baggies continued their impressive start to the league campaign with a strong performance away from home, against a side who have plenty of expectation attached to them after three successive promotions.
Isaac Price scored a brace for Ryan Mason’s men, including a crucial header in the final 10 minutes which utimately ended up being the difference between the two teams.
Sam Smith clawed a goal back for the hosts in stoppage time, but it did little to take the shine off what was another promising afternoon for Albion.

McClean admits frustration after Baggies defeat
West Brom’s start in the Championship will be hugely important to help settle some of the nerves surrounding Mason’s appointment in B71.
The Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Derby County was certainly a frustrating evening, but the Baggies have turned in two promising displays in the league either side of that defeat.
Mason’s decision-making has come in for praise already, and his ability to alter the course of a game was evident yesterday with his introduction of Jed Wallace from the bench in the 74th minute.
- Mason’s substitutions had a major impact on the outcome of the game
- Wallace scored West Brom’s second within a minute of being introduced
- Fellow substitute Mikey Johnston laid on the assists for both of the Baggies’ late goals
The wideman found the back of the net within a minute of coming on, and his strike put his side ahead at a vital moment of the encounter.
West Brom hung on to their lead in the latter stages, and were able to land another blow on a Wrexham side who have found life difficult in the second tier so far.
The Red Dragons have been beaten in both of their two league outings so far, but wing-back James McClean took to Instagram after the clash to make it clear that he thinks there are big things to come from his team.
The ex-Baggies star wrote: “Very frustrating but it will click, I have no doubts. Roll on the next one.”

West Brom could face a battle to keep Price in January
Price has been the key man for West Brom so far, and he appears to have already taken his game to the next level after a promising start in blue and white last term.
The Northern Irishman delivered some strong showings in 2024/25 after joining in January, but he is now crucially adding the end product to his game that will make him undroppable for Mason.
He already has three goals to his name from just two games, and if he maintains this kind of form across the first few months of the season, then Premier League clubs are bound to come calling for the youngster.
Price looks ready to take the Championship by storm in a more advanced role for the Baggies this term, and if he continues on his current trajectory, then it would be no surprise if they face a battle to keep him in January.
