West Brom told to sign Dele Alli in huge post-deadline deal – ‘He’ll take a pay cut’
West Brom could yet add the finishing touches to their squad using the free agent market.
The Baggies added two new faces to their ranks on deadline day, taking their tally of new summer additions up to nine.
West Brom signed Charlie Taylor and Samuel Iling-Junior in the final hours of the window, but the arrival of the duo may not spell the end of the reinforcements coming into their squad.
The free agent market remains accessible for clubs in the Football League, and Ryan Mason may have the perfect opportunity to add a huge name to his squad after the deadline.

West Brom fans want Dele Alli signing
West Brom boss Mason has some excellent connections within the game as a result of both his playing career and the time he spent coaching in Tottenham’s academy.
He could be about to put those connections to excellent use in the aftermath of deadline day, with one of his old teammates suddenly becoming available again.
Former Spurs star Dele Alli has had his contract terminated by Serie A side Como, meaning that he is now available for clubs to sign outside of the transfer window.
- Mason and Alli shared the pitch on 15 occasions during their time together at Spurs
- Alli has made just 17 competitive appearances in the last three seasons
- He was released by Como after featuring just once in Serie A
The 29-year-old has had a hugely troubled time in recent years, but is undoubtedly a special talent if he can resurrect his previous form.
Alli was once touted as one of Spurs’ and England’s most important players, but some Albion fans are now holding out hope that Mason could use his influence to try and bring the midfielder to The Hawthorns.
One supporter even noted that Alli could potentially be willing to “take a pay cut” in order to work with his former teammate once again.
West Brom need to steer clear of Dele Alli
The togetherness of the West Brom squad under Mason was evident after the win at Stoke City last weekend, and they have to be very careful to ensure that they don’t harm that.
Links with Alli are understandable given he and Mason’s Tottenham connection, but the deal would make no logical sense from Albion’s perspective.
Even with a wage cut, he would be on significant money by Championship standards, and it would be a complete gamble as to whether Mason would be able to help him back to anything remotely close to his best.
A struggling player like Alli coming in on big money could easily disrupt the harmony within the group, and that could hold the key to the Baggies’ promotion aspirations this term.
