West Brom’s new squad value calculated after £25m+ exits from The Hawthorns

West Brom had a hugely busy summer as they overhauled their squad with plenty of new options.

The Baggies have been transitioning into the Ryan Mason era after parting company with Tony Mowbray in the latter stages of the previous campaign, and that has understandably brought about a sizeable change within the ranks.

Nat Phillips and Chris Mepham joined West Brom among nine new additions, while there are also 12 members of last season’s group who have moved on from The Hawthorns.

The Black Country side will look like a very different unit in the Championship this term, and with that in mind, West Brom News has assessed the value of the squad in B71 with the transfer window now closed.

Josh Maja is the most valuable player at West Brom

Josh Maja could leave West Brom in the coming weeks, with clubs in both Saudi Arabia and Turkey potentially prepared to take a chance on the frontman with their transfer windows still open.

The 26-year-old is still recovering from a lengthy injury lay-off, but his exploits in front of goal last season have seen him retain the vast majority of his value from the early part of his career.

He ended 2024/25 as Albion’s top scorer, with 12 goals to his name in the league, despite not featuring in a matchday squad after 4 January.

Maja also tops this list for the Baggies, although his estimated value of around £8.6million is matched by that of Aston Villa loanee Samuel Iling-Junior, as per to Transfermarkt.

PlayerValue
Josh Maja£8.6m
Samuel Iling-Junior (Loan)£8.6m
Alfie Gilchrist£6.9m
Chris Mepham£5.2m
Toby Collyer (Loan)£4.3m
West Brom’s top five most valuable players.

New signings Alfie Gilchrist, Mepham and Toby Collyer round out the top five, while Karlan Grant and Aune Heggebo follow closely behind.

The lowest value asset in B71 is Tammer Bany at £217,000, with a series of injuries limiting the youngster’s opportunities in English football so far.

Goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith is the second-lowest, and his situation will certainly not be helped by the fact that he has now lost his place in the side to Josh Griffiths, whose £860,000 valuation could increase massively in the coming years.

The Baggies squad is worth £66.82m

West Brom sold both Tom Fellows and Torbjorn Heggem this summer as part of over £25m worth of exits, but surprisingly, that hasn’t had a particularly significant effect on the valuation of their squad.

The Baggies’ total squad value now stands at around £66.82m, which is not too big a drop off from last season’s total of around £76.58m, given the calibre of players that have departed this summer.

Albion have made around £7.5m worth of profit from their transfer business this summer, and it is important to remember that the size of their squad has been cut by three compared to last year, which will also affect its value.

On the face of it, Mason and Co. appear to have replaced their department stars adequately, but with the loan market playing a prominent role in that valuation, only time will tell whether that is actually the case.
