Stan Collymore sends surprise West Brom message as Hawthorns celebrates 125 years
West Brom have had several players cause them trouble at The Hawthorns in its 125 years.
Albion are keen to make history this season as Ryan Mason eyes the Championship title.
The Baggies are currently on an unbeaten run with Nat Phillips netting West Brom’s only goal against Stoke City. The Albion boss watched from a distance after Mason was awarded a red card against Portsmouth.
But as West Brom look to push forward, the Baggies have taken the time to take a trip down memory lane.

Stan Collymore wishes The Hawthorns a happy birthday
West Brom’s iconic The Hawthorns Stadium turned 125 on Wednesday, 3 September.
- The Baggies first match at The Hawthorns was against Derby County on 3 September 1900
- West Brom’s game against Derby ended in a 1-1 draw in front of a crowd of 20,104
- The game that followed was against rivals Aston Villa. Albion were defeated 1-0 in front of an estimated 35,417 crowd
Stan Collymore has taken swipes at West Brom in the past, having played for Villa during his playing career. But the retired centre-forward offered his well-wishes to the Hawthorns…even if he could not resist a little dig.
To his 886,200 followers via X, Collymore said on 3 September: “Happy 125th Birthday to the Hawthorns, a great place to enjoy football.”
How many goals has Stan Collymore scored against West Brom
Collymore played a total of four games against West Brom during his professional career, with two of these being held at The Hawthorns.
During this time, he had a 100 per cent win rate against Albion both home and away, managing to net four goals.
One goal came for Villa when The Hawthorns hosted their fierce rivals in a 4-0 defeat in the 1997/98 FA Cup. Another was away to Fulham during a 2-1 defeat in the third Round of the 1999/00 Carabao Cup.
But his most iconic performance against the Baggies was in an away 2003/04 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The centre-forward netted the only two goals of the tie in a performance that is still remembered by both sets of fans.
However, he failed to register a goal or an assist in West Brom’s 2-1 defeat at the Hawthorns during the same season.
