Bookmakers assess chance of West Brom signing Dele Alli, they’re joined by Birmingham City

West Brom could pull off a sensational swoop for Dele Alli who is currently a free agent.

Albion has seemingly closed up shop after Charlie Taylor joined West Brom on loan from Southampton. All things considered, the Baggies had a summer transfer window to remember.

Nat Phillips arrived at West Brom from Liverpool and scored his first goal for Albion in their 1-0 win over Stoke City before the international break. Meanwhile, Samuel Iling-Junior is a player to get excited about, even if West Brom fans would have preferred a Tom Fellows replacement.

However, there is now a real possibility that Albion becomes the destination where Alli reignites his career.

West Brom are 7/1 odds to sign Dele Alli

After going unbeaten in his four Championship games, there are already murmurings about whether Ryan Mason could lead West Brom to Premier League promotion.

While it is far too early to predict, the former Tottenham assistant coach seems to have exceeded expectations during his first couple of months as manager.

Mason spent a brief stint coaching Alli when he was named Spurs interim coach in April 2021, and after he was promoted to first-team coach under Antonio Conte. And it now seems that he could be looking at a title charge with Alli beside him.

According to Oddsbible via Instagram on Wednesday, 3 September, West Brom’s odds of signing Alli are 7/1. This is behind Birmingham City, who lead the odds at 5/1.

Mason’s familiarity with Alli would be an advantage. There remains the concern that his arrival could disrupt the harmony that Mason’s building at Albion.

Deli Alli’s wages could be a problem at West Brom

While he may be a free agent, West Brom could still pay a hefty price for Alli.

According to Capology on Friday, 5 August, Alli earned around £108,000 per week while at Como, while also earning an estimated £5.6million yearly.

For comparison, the highest earner at the Baggies is Daryl Dike, who is on around £32,000 per week and £1.68m yearly.

As a result, Alli would need to take a huge pay cut if he is to arrive at The Hawthorns this season.
