West Brom fans have finally shown a united view on Callum Styles after his recent performance for Hungary against Ireland.

The 25-year-old played every minute for his national team at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, as they squandered a 2-0 first-half lead to be held to a 2-2 draw by their hosts.

Styles has had a mixed stint at West Brom since his move from Barnsley in the summer of 2024, but he has been a regular feature for them once again at the start of this season.

He has featured in every single minute of competitive action under Ryan Mason so far, and he played a similarly crucial role for Hungary in their latest assignment in World Cup qualifying.

West Brom fans want to see Callum Styles in midfield

West Brom have largely played Styles as a left-back since his move to B71, and the international breaks often serve as a timely reminder to the fact that he is actually a centre midfielder.

The former Sunderland man lined up in the middle of the park alongside Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai against Ireland, and the pair turned in a commanding display to dictate large parts of the game for the visitors.

Marco Rossi's side raced into an early two-goal lead in Dublin, with Styles setting up Barnabas Varga's opener in just the third minute of action.

As the encounter played out, the Albion star used the ball well, was combative out of possession, and showed a strong reading of the game, qualities that have occasionally been lacking during his stints at left-back for his club.

Baggies fans have picked up on his impressive display against Ireland on X, with many suggesting that he should be given an opportunity to play a similar role by Mason in the Championship.

  • @SjcWBA - "Styles very impressive for Hungary"
  • @chizzwbaa - "By far one of the most impressive midfield performances I've seen, they can't shake him"
  • @harrisc_04 - "More proof as to why he's wasted at left-back and isn't a defender"

Ryan Mason has the depth to play Callum Styles in midfield

West Brom moved to sign Charlie Taylor on a season-long loan on deadline day, and with Alfie Gilchrist also joining the ranks just days before, they finally have a little more depth in their full-back positions.

Styles' tendency to operate on the left of the backline was largely born out of necessity for Albion, who had little in the way of other options at one stage.

However, their squad is now well-rounded enough to allow the Hungary international to step into the midfield on occasion, especially in games where his energy could be valuable.

Ultimately, despite the criticism that he sometimes comes in for at The Hawthorns, Styles has proven to Mason that he is a versatile and capable footballer who can be relied upon to perform well virtually anywhere on the pitch.

West Brom fans have made their thoughts clear after his latest display, and after a promising summer window, they could be about to get their wish in the near future.
