West Brom handed four-figure penalty after what happened in Championship

West Brom will undoubtedly want to fly under the radar this season as they aim for a play-offs spot in the Championship.

In the previous campaign, the Baggies were seen as one of the favourites for a top-six spot, but Tony Mowbray failed to achieve that goal.

Opta’s supercomputer has now predicted the Albion to be in contention for Premier League promotion, with Ryan Mason tipped to achieve a third-placed finish at The Hawthorns.

The Black Country club continued their unbeaten run in the Championship after beating Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on 30 August, but they didn’t necessarily come out unscathed.

FA fine West Brom and Stoke City £5,000 for brawl

Around the 60th minute of the 1-0 victory in Staffordshire, players from the Baggies were involved in a “mass confrontation” with the opposition.

Now, the Football Association have judged that the Albion and Stoke failed to contain the situation at the bet365 Stadium, resulting in a £5,000 fine for both, according to the BBC.

The news outlet reports on 8 September that both clubs have admitted to the charge and accepted the penalty.

It was certainly a tense affair as the Black Country club ended up jumping above the Potters into second place in the league table after the victory and ended Mark Robins’ team’s three-game win streak.

Ryan Mason has tough run at The Hawthorns after international break

Mason hasn’t shied away from showing his fiery character at The Hawthorns, and that may come in handy in the upcoming fixtures.

The Baggies will return to action in the Championship on 13 September at home against Derby County, who already beat them this season in the Carabao Cup.

Then a trip to North Yorkshire awaits, with current table-toppers Middlesbrough hosting the Albion on 19 September, followed by games against Leicester City, Norwich City and Millwall.

West Brom will undoubtedly count on Isaac Price this season, with the Northern Irishman shining on international duty, scoring in the 3-1 loss to Germany on 7 September.

The 21-year-old will be expected to fill the void left by Tom Fellows’ departure to Southampton and has already played a crucial role so far in the current campaign.

If the Baggies hope to stay in contention for a play-offs spot at The Hawthorns, they arguably need to be consistent, and the next few weeks will determine whether they have what it takes to succeed this season.
