Aune Heggebo not good enough for West Brom, Championship numbers speak loud

Aune Heggebo risks being axed as West Brom lost 1-0 to Derby County in the Championship on Saturday.

The Hawthorns hosted John Eustace’s team on 13 September, with the visitors securing the three points after an 84th-minute winner from Andreas Weimann.

Ryan Mason may have to turn to Josh Maja in the upcoming matches, with the Nigeria international playing just 27 minutes of football this season.

The English manager has preferred the former SK Brann to be his go-to number nine in the first five league matches, but his record has been underwhelming.

West Brom striker Aune Heggebo has just one shot on target in Championship

Heggebo, 24, has attempted five shots in the first five league games, with just one being on target, according to BBC Sport.

The Norway international has failed to score a goal in the league so far for the Baggies, and he arguably risks losing his starting spot at The Hawthorns.

Mason was predicted to finish third in the Championship after the previous transfer window, but he’ll undoubtedly need his centre-forward in fine form to achieve that goal.

The English manager needs to find a solution for the Albions’ lack of goals in the opening few matches if he wants to get them back into the Premier League.

Derby County snatch points from The Hawthorns

Mason will be disappointed to lose to Derby as the Baggies dominated proceedings for most of the fixture but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

The Albion took 18 shots against the Rams but were unable to make the most of them, while Eustace’s team scored with their only shot on target.

It’s clear that the Black Country club need to do something different against Middlesbrough on 19 September if they hope to get back to winning ways.

West Brom evidently need a consistent goalscorer to secure a place in the play-offs spot at the end of the season.

The Baggies missed Maja’s influence in the second half of last season and subsequently finished ninth in the Championship, which led to Tony Mowbray’s dismissal.

Heggebo was the Albion’s big-money signing last summer and was also handed his Norway debut recently, but the centre-forward doesn’t have time to waste in B71.
