West Brom reveal vs Leicester shows why Ryan Mason is leading Albion in the right direction
West Brom could soon find themselves dominating the Championship once again.
Albion’s stellar start to the Championship had some believing that Ryan Mason would lead West Brom to Premier League promotion.
But the Baggies went from going unbeaten in their first three games to failing to win in their last three matches.
West Brom’s defeat to Derby County is where it began, and it seems to have gone downhill from there – or so it appears on the surface.
Despite conceding in the final minutes, West Brom’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City demonstrates why fans should continue to back Mason.

West Brom successful take-ons skyrocket vs Leicester
There have been suggestions that Mason should address West Brom’s goalscoring form after countless missed chances against Leicester.
However, Albion Analysis via X on 27 September has revealed several statistics that show that the Baggies are closer to bridging the gap on the goalscoring front.
Against the Foxes, West Brom recorded as many successful take-ons as their last two games combined – creating as many shots from take-ons as the rest of the season already.
The Baggies also had their highest dribbling success rate of the season and achieved their highest carries into the penalty area.
Scoring goals wins games of football, but being unable to attack the opposition’s box and create clear-cut chances creates more problems than it solves.
Mason has demonstrated that he can coach his team to create goalscoring opportunities, and if they continue to do so consistently, the goals will soon come.

Samuel Iling-Junior paved the way for West Brom
Samuel Iling-Junior is currently on loan at West Brom from Aston Villa and has already had a memorable tenure.
The versatile winger was handed his first start for the Baggies against Leicester, where Iling-Junior netted his first goal for Albion.
But what’s interesting is his elite level of output with minimal touches and chances in front of the goal.
- Iling-Junior had 25 touches in 72 minutes played against Leicester
- He scored one goal from one attempt
For comparison, West Brom had 11 shots on goal, created three big chances, but Iling-Junior’s goal was the only one scored for the home side.
His performance was the perfect combination of skill and efficiency and should be a reference point for the Baggies moving forward.
As such, Albion can create opportunities and have clinical players; the task for Mason is to achieve consistency.
