‘It hurts’ – Jed Wallace reveals what West Brom needs to change after ‘disappointing’ developments

Jed Wallace and West Brom will hope to turn over a new leaf in the coming weeks.

The Baggies’ strong start to the season has taken a sharp turn, with them failing to win all three of their last Championship games.

Defeat to Derby County ended West Brom’s unbeaten run, and it all went downhill from there, with Nat Phillips netting an own goal against Leicester City during stoppage time to gift the away side a point in their most recent confrontation.

However, Albion’s captain seems to be well aware of the issues facing his side and how to fix them.

Jed Wallace states West Brom must be more ‘clinical’

Ryan Mason was predicted to lead Albion to Premier League promotion after a fantastic start to the season.

However, the Baggies’ woes in front of goal were highlighted early on with Aune Heggebo failing to net his first Championship goal until their defeat against Middlesbrough.

Speaking on the Not The Top 20 Podcast on 30 September, Wallace admitted that West Brom’s draw with Leicester “hurt” at the time and insisted his team needed to be more clinical moving forward.

He said: “It hurt Friday a lot to be honest. Those draws, they’re almost worse than defeats in a way, when you feel like you lose those two points, it hurts.

“We played really well in the game, I said to the lads after the game, we played far too well not to win the game. Leicester are going to be there abouts and we want to be there as well. We’ve dropped two points, but we’ve also given them a point as well, which hurts.

“I thought the lads played really well. We need to be more clinical and finish the game off.

“At 1-0 as we’ve seen countless times, it only takes a deflection, and I feel like in the two home games we’ve only had two shots on our goal and they’ve both gone in. It’s massively disappointing.”

The West Brom captain has identified what his side must do moving forward

Wallace, no doubt, will be hoping his team implements these changes in West Brom’s upcoming game against Norwich City.

How did West Brom perform in attack against Leicester City?

Other than an excellent solo goal from Samuel Iling-Junior, the Albion failed to register another goal against Leicester at home.

However, West Brom were not a team unable to create for their attackers.

While Heggebo has been criticised for his poor form in front of goal, Josh Maja also missed a huge chance to make it 2-0 at The Hawthorns.

This brings into question whether it’s a coaching issue, with several Albion players unable to convert their chances.

Either way, with plenty of football still to be played, Mason still has the chance to turn things around for the better.
