Carlos Corberan furious with what ex-West Brom star did to his Valencia side in Spain
Carlos Corberan has led a turbulent time of things since leaving West Brom for Valencia last year.
Corberan left West Brom to take over at Valencia on 25 December 2024 after almost two years at The Hawthorns.
Tony Mowbray replaced the former Baggies coach but was sacked after just a few months in charge, with Albion appointing Ryan Mason in his place.
Valencia fans were impressed by Corberan early on, but almost a year later, the Spanish coach is at his wits’ end.

Carlos Corberan fumes at Salomon Rondon goal
Salomon Rondon was one of Albion’s most expensive transfers, but departed The Hawthorns in 2019 after a season-long loan at Newcastle United.
The striker has played for several clubs since and is currently at recently promoted La Liga side Oviedo.
Oviedo netted two goals in two minutes against Valencia on 30 September to win the game 2-1 away from home.
Rondon netted the winner for the away side in an impressive counter-attack, which left Corberan fuming.
After the game the Valencia coach said: “Oviedo are a team that were alive, and with the substitutions. They brought on a striker who knows how to play with his back to goal.
“From a corner that Santamaria failed to clear, we gave them the ball, and we lost our bearings. Diego, thinking about attacking, left the man he was marking… Once again, it was a poorly defended set piece that led to the equaliser. The emotion changed completely.
“It’s tough to miss a penalty and then have to turn around a match that you may feel you had on course for a win. With no time to react, the second goal for Oviedo came after a good attack, which we should have cut out. We didn’t do that; we suffered a counterattack and another messy move that ended in a goal.
“The disappointment you feel, the players’ frustration in that moment, prevents the team from playing the way that is necessary to turn things around. It was a case of wanting to score and not being able to before the end. We couldn’t change the scoreline, which increases the negative feeling about the match.”
Rondon was able to control a well-executed long ball and find the back of the net despite three Valencia players surrounding him in the box.
There is no doubt that Corberan will want to see more from his side when they take on Girona on 4 October.
How did Rondon perform for West Brom?
West Brom signed Rondon from Zenit St Petersburg in August 2015 for £12million, which was a club record at the time.
He had an eventful debut at Albion, where he assisted James Morrison in a 3-2 home defeat to Chelsea. He was later brought down by John Terry, who saw red.
- He netted his first goal for Albion on 29 August 2015 against Stoke City
- Rondon scored his first Premier League hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Swansea City
- He netted 28 goals and provided nine assists in 120 games for the Baggies
The skilful striker then signed with Dalian Yifang on 19 July 2019 after his loan spell at Newcastle, after almost four years as a Baggies player.
