Millwall vs West Brom: Will Storm Amy affect Championship showdown like Storm Ciara did in 2020?
West Brom fans may be having a sense of Deja vu as Storm Amy looms.
Albion will travel to The Den to face Millwall in the Championship on 4 October.
Ryan Mason will be searching for a win after West Brom’s recent victory over Norwich City reignited Albion’s Premier League promotion aims.
However, West Brom fans may be reminiscing about a tricky time from the past, with the events of Storm Ciara not far from their minds.

West Brom triumph during Storm Ciara
In 2020, Storm Ciara hit, sending heavy rain and gusts of wind during West Brom’s Championship game against Millwall at The Den on 9 February.
Travelling fans battled winds, which reached more than 90mph, while the players faced up to the tricky conditions on the pitch.
The blistering winds and clogged surface made it increasingly difficult to control the ball, testing the players’ patience as well as their technique.
Former Albion forward Matheus Pereira, who was one of West Brom’s most expensive transfers, succumbed to the unconventional conditions when he rolled his attempt onto Millwall’s woodwork in the opening five minutes.
- Millwall had been defeated at home just twice before the game
- Dara O’Shea netted his first Albion goal during the confrontation
However, Slaven Bilic’s side battled through the storm, where Filip Krovinovic curled one in from the edge of the box to fire the Baggies in front while Dara O’Shea later sealed the deal in what ended up being a 2-0 victory away from home.
Now West Brom fans will be having flashbacks to a quite insane moment in their history, with Storm Amy breathing down the neck of the United Kingdom.
Yellow and amber weather warning for large parts of England
West Brom and Millwall have a rich history, and no doubt will be looking to put on another iconic display at The Den.
The two sides will battle it out on 4 October with kick-off at 3pm BST.
While the confrontation will be unaffected by Storm Amy, travelling fans may still be affected by the blistering conditions.
The Met Office reports as of 2 October that yellow and amber weather warnings are in place for the Northern and Western parts of the UK, with winds expected to reach up to 80mph in affected areas.
Albion’s upcoming clash may have little to worry about, but elsewhere in the UK could see a repeat of that unforgettable day on 9 February 2020.
