West Brom’s promotion chances take a hit in damning supercomputer prediction
West Brom are looking to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2021 this season under Ryan Mason.
Since their relegation into the Championship, the Baggies have come close to returning to the English top-flight but are yet to achieve this feat.
Last season, West Brom collapsed under Tony Mowbray, as they failed to get into the playoffs.
However, under Mason, there is a belief that the Baggies can achieve this, with the Black Country side already having multiple positive performances.
Yet, despite sitting just seventh in the table, their promotion chances have already take a hit.

West Brom’s chances of promotion have been dramatically reduced
At the start of September, West Brom were widely backed to be promoted, with Opta believing Mason’s side had a 19.92 per cent chance.
A third-place finish was predicted, with the Baggies even outsiders to win the Championship title.
- West Brom are now on to their fifth consecutive season in the Championship
- In that time they have never finished below 10th
- However, the Baggies have still only qualified for the playoffs once
However, one victory in five matches has seen these odds drastically reduced, with West Brom’s 3-0 loss to Millwall being a real eye-opener.
Now, ahead of the Championship’s return after the international break, Opta on 16 October released their latest predictions for how the division will play out.

One of the most eye-catching stats is how far West Brom’s promotion chances have fallen.
Currently, they have an 8.2 per cent chance of reaching the Premier League, with the likes of Coventry, Leicester, Middlesbrough and Ipswich being above the Black Country club.
Time is running out for West Brom to reach the Premier League
With the gap between the Premier League and the Championship constantly growing, time is running out if the Baggies are to reach the Premier League.
Each season, the relegated teams are becoming more dominant in the second tier.
Therefore, time is running out for West Brom to secure promotion before it is simply too difficult to achieve.
With multiple big, established Premier League sides also in danger of relegation this season, promotion next year could be next to impossible for regular Championship outfits.
