West Brom need to get back to winning ways under Ryan Mason.

West Brom suffered a 3-0 loss to Millwall last time out, which came with a humiliating performance as Mason was slammed for his Albion team selection.

West Brom play Preston on Saturday, and with the international break behind the Black Country club, Mason has a chance to put things right.

Mason has provided an injury update on his West Brom squad before the clash on Saturday, which has now left Jed Wallace in need of his biggest performance of the season against Preston.

Jed Wallace needs to improve as Karlan Grant nears return for West Brom

Mason has been hoping for Karlan Grant's return for some time, as the attacker has been sidelined through injury.

Wallace has been heavily criticised in the past two seasons for the Baggies, with his age now reflecting in performances.

Wallace started up top with Aune Heggebo in Albion's defeat to Millwall as Mason is expected to revert back to his 4-2-3-1 formation against Preston.

The change in formation will likely see Wallace pushed out to the right once more, but with Grant bound to gain match fitness in the coming weeks, the 31-year-old must start a good string of games against Preston.

But it may not just be game time that Wallace is fighting for.

Wallace's West Brom contract expires at the end of the season

Wallace's contract with West Brom runs until 30 June 2026, and he may not be offered a new contract by Shilen Patel.

There's potential that Wallace himself may want to move on, but regardless, this season will prove to be a vital one in terms of where he is playing next season.

If Wallace continues to underperform, he could find himself in League One for the 2026-27 season, which would be a fall from grace for a man who used to be one of the Championship's best playmakers.
