Jayson Molumby’s West Brom disciplinary record revealed as fans rage at midfielder

Jayson Molumby has extended his poor disciplinary record for West Brom after being sent off in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Coventry.

West Brom were excellent in the opening 45 minutes, with Aune Heggebo’s brace putting the Baggies into a 2-0 lead before Josh Eccles got one back before the break.

Having already been issued a yellow card in the first half, Molumby was given his marching orders in the 49th minute for cynically pulling back Eccles on the halfway line.

Ellis Sims and Victor Torp completed the turnaround after Molumby’s dismissal, and the Republic of Ireland international was hugely criticised on social media after the match.

Ryan Mason was furious with Molumby, who has once again been sent off while playing for West Brom.

Jayson Molumby gets third red card of West Brom career

Molumby’s red card against Coventry was another example of how much of a liability he can be on the team.

Since arriving at West Brom in 2021-22, the 26-year-old has now received three red cards, with the other two also coming in Championship matches against Bristol City on 5 April 2025 and Nottingham Forest on 26 November 2021.

Molumby’s disciplinary record:

A moment of stupidity from Molumby cost the Baggies dearly, but the performance before his red card showed signs of improvement under Mason.

Fans were hugely critical of Molumby after the game, and the dismissal completely changed the complexion of the match.

Another supporter defended Mason’s tactics and said that all of the blame must lie with the Irish midfielder.

One Baggies fan even asked if Molumby could refund the travelling contingent after his actions.

With the Baggies sitting in 17th place in the Championship table, Ryan Mason has come under scrutiny for some of the performances in recent weeks.

Jason Molumby’s red card overshadows promising performance

Despite being under pressure, the Coventry defeat isn’t one that can be pinned on Mason as much.

Aune Heggebo, a man who has struggled badly since his summer move, was dangerous, and he proved to be a huge threat against the league leaders.

Mikey Johnston registered two fantastic assists, and the Baggies’ defenders were reolute in repelling the Sky Blue in the first half.

With matches against Birmingham and Swansea at The Hawthorns over the next week, it’s crucial that West Brom replicate this type of performance.
