West Brom told to hire Michael Carrick ahead of make-or-break Birmingham showdown for Ryan Mason
West Brom fans are pleading for Michael Carrick to replace Ryan Mason at The Hawthorns.
Mason is in trouble at West Brom and faces a crucial test on Wednesday against Birmingham City.
The Baggies lost in the Championship last time out after Coventry City managed to stage a comeback to win 3-2 following Jayson Molumby’s reckless red card on Saturday.
West Brom are aiming to gain promotion to the Premier League, but Mason is quickly losing the fans who are now asking for Middlesbrough’s former head coach to replace him.

West Brom fans say Michael Carrick would be ‘revolutionary’
West Brom rivalled Middlesbrough for Carrick back in 2022 when he opted to join the North East outfit.
The former Manchester United midfielder spent almost three years with Boro, and came within touching distance of reaching the Premier League.
- Carrick led Middlesbrough to the Championship Play-offs during the 2022-23 season
- He was sacked in the summer after failing to reach the top six with Boro last season
- Middlesbrough stayed in the top six hunt until the final game of the Championship last campaign
Mason has won just six of his 17 gams in charge of Albion so far in all competitions, and with one win in five, things are turning sour at the Black Country Club.
Following disappointing results and controversial displays under Mason, one Albion supporter asked who should replace him, with Carrick the clear favourite among the fanbase.
One Albion fan said: “I’d take Carrick.”
Another West Brom fan said: “Carrick could be revolutionary.”
It’s clear to see why West Brom fans are so eager for Carrick to come in; he matches the Baggies perfectly.
Exactly why West Brom and Carrick would work
Carrick usually played a 4-2-3-1 at Boro, the same formation that West Brom have opted to play in recent times.
However, unlike Mason, Carrick has the experience of the Championship and knows how to get a team scoring goals freely.
During the 2022-23 season, Boro scored 84 goals, just three short of champions Burnley.
There would be defensive concerns due to his expansive style of play; however, it may be worth Shilen Patel taking a small gamble for what could be a huge reward.
