Dreadful trend set by Tony Mowbray could be catalyst for Ryan Mason’s sacking at West Brom
West Brom’s awful midweek record could prove to be Ryan Mason’s downfall ahead of their clash with Birmingham City.
The Baggies are set to take on the Blues on Wednesday night at The Hawthorns.
While West Brom are favourites to beat Birmingham, their recent form has been poor, with the Black Country outfit’s promotion hopes slipping out of their grasp.
Therefore, with Mason under pressure at The Hawthorns, the manager is in dire need of a win. However, considering their terrible record in midweek clashes, the game could prove to be his downfall.

West Brom have only won one of their last seven Championship mid-week games
West Brom have proved to be terrible at mid-week fixtures in recent times.
According to BBC Sport on 25 November, the Baggies have only won one of their last seven matches on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Championship.
This terrible trend started under previous manager Tony Mowbray, with his first match being a 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on a Tuesday.
Since then, West Brom’s only win came against Norwich City on 1 October, as Josh Maja netted the only goal in a 1-0 victory.
With Mason’s job potentially in jeopardy if West Brom lose to Birmingham, if this trend continues on Wednesday, it could prove to be the catalyst behind his sacking at The Hawthorns.

What has Ryan Mason said ahead of West Brom vs Birmingham City?
With Mason potentially feeling the heat, the manager has not shied away from questions before the Birmingham clash.
While the Baggies are currently in the bottom half, going into the game, they are only five points off sixth.
Now, Mason has stated that he is determined to turn their fortunes around.
“I’ve got to be honest, it doesn’t bother me what other people think, the most important people are anyone and everyone associated with the Albion,” he told BBC Sport on 25 November.
“I’ve always said regardless of how many games I’ve managed, I’ll always be learning – in football if you stand still and don’t want to learn, then the game passes you by.
“I’m determined more than ever to change the feeling, which is ultimately to win more games of football.”
