Curtis Davies reacts to West Brom vs Sheffield United footage, goal should’ve been disallowed
West Brom may have been fortunate as Karlan Grant scored their second goal against Sheffield United in the Championship on Friday.
Chris Wilder’s team were beaten at The Hawthorns on 12 December, with Aune Heggebo also finding the back of the net in the 2-0 victory for the Baggies.
West Brom fans may feel Mark McGuinness tripped over his own legs, but on further inspection, it does look like Grant did catch him.
The Albion scored two quick goals after the break to seal the win against the South Yorkshire outfit, but they were possibly given a reprieve in the fixture.

Sheffield United should’ve had free-kick as Karlan Grant scored for West Brom
Curtis Davies doesn’t think West Brom’s second goal against Sheffield United should’ve stood.
The former Baggies defender believes Grant fouls McGuinness as he runs through on goal before his wonderful strike at The Hawthorns.
Davies argued that had the roles been reversed and a defender had clipped an attacking player in a similar situation, a foul would’ve been given.
Speaking on Sky Sports on 12 December, the ex-Sierra Leone international said: “For me, no. I think it’s one of those situations where, by no means, does Grant mean to bring down McGuinness. But what happens is, if this is a striker going in on goal and the defender accidentally clips his ankle, as he does here, the striker is going to get a penalty or a free-kick is going to be given.”
Davies added: “So therefore, the slightest little touch, that’s what happens, that’s why it should’ve been a foul.”
Ryan Mason was the odds-on favourite to get sacked at The Hawthorns before the game against the Blades, but he may have secured his short-term future with the three points at home.
Ryan Mason Championship play-offs prediction at The Hawthorns
West Brom were seen as one of the contenders to win Premier League promotion this season, but they’ve had a bit of a blip in recent weeks.
The Baggies have lost six of their last 11 league matches and find themselves 14th in the table as things stand.
Yet, the Albion are just three points off sixth-place Hull City, and Mason will have a chance to close the gap at the MKM Stadium on 20 December.
It doesn’t look like the Championship have the best of quality this season, and the Black Country outfit may not have a better chance of winning promotion than in the current campaign.
