Ryan Mason squad player to stay away from Hawthorns for longer as West Brom announcement made
West Brom youngster Cole Deeming will not be returning to The Hawthorns before the end of the year.
Deeming joined Truro City on an initial one-month loan deal in November, which was due to expire this week.
Plenty is expected of the 18-year-old academy graduate at The Hawthorns and he is clearly impressing on loan at Truro.
Deeming signed a new contract with West Brom in the summer as a sign of the trust the Black Country club have in him.
The teenage talent is now enjoying a run of regular football elsewhere, which will only benefit his game in the long term.
Cole Deeming extends Truro City loan spell
Deeming made his senior debut in West Brom’s defeat to Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup earlier this season.
While that was a day to forget for Ryan Mason, it is one Deeming himself will never forget as he played half an hour of the tie.
Deeming was then named in Mason’s squad six times for Championship matches this term, albeit without getting any further minutes off the bench.
Having impressed for Truro across his four appearances in all competitions, the midfielder has now agreed to extend his stay with the Enterprise National League side until 3 January.
West Brom confirmed the news in an announcement on their official website on Thursday, wishing Deeming all the best for the rest of his time at the Truro City Stadium.
Deeming has 18 months to run on his existing contract with Albion.
Where do West Brom rank for average squad age in Championship?
Many Albion fans would no doubt like to see Mason give more youngsters such as Deeming a chance in the first team.
However, Mason’s job is under threat at West Brom and he cannot afford to build for the future. It is very much a case of one game at a time.
There is no denying, though, that the Baggies’ average age could do with being brought down slightly.
- West Brom have used 27 different players in the Championship this season
- The Baggies have an average squad age of 25.6
- That is the 14th highest in the division
With an age of 25.6, West Brom are at the wrong end of the table when it comes to average squad age in the Championship.
For context, Watford have the youngster average squad at 24.2, while Wrexham are at the other end of the spectrum with 27.8.
For now, the best option for Deeming is to continue his development at a lower level and then potentially fight for first-team football at Albion next season.
