West Brom fans furious with ‘appalling’ player’s performance vs Swansea: ‘Gareth Barry moves quicker than him’

West Brom continued their struggles away from The Hawthorns as they were beaten 1-0 by Swansea City on New Year’s Day.

Jay Fulton scored the only goal of the contest 16 minutes from time, curling past Joe Wildsmith and into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Ryan Mason came into the game under huge pressure, and calls for his departure will only continue after another dismal performance.

While Mason is the focus of a lot of the criticism following another defeat, the 34-year-old was not helped by one of his players in particular.

Ryan Mason loses patience with Alex Mowatt vs Swansea

Alex Mowatt started the season well for West Brom, but his form has dropped off a cliff in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old picked up an injury earlier this month and was poor on his return to the side during the 2-1 defeat to Bristol City on Boxing Day.

Once again, Mowatt was dreadful against Swansea, and Mason lost patience with the midfielder midway through the second half.

With the scores still at 0-0 on the hour mark, the Englishman was replaced by Jayson Molumby, with Josh Maja also coming on to take Aune Heggebo’s place.

However, the changes didn’t have the desired outcome, with the Baggies conceding the only goal of the game 14 minutes later, condemning them to their ninth consecutive away defeat.

West Brom fans appalled by Alex Mowatt’s performance

Mowatt has been a regular in the centre of Mason’s midfield so far this season and he is clearly someone that the Baggies boss trusts.

However, the ex-Barnsley man has come in for a lot of criticism after his subpar performance against Swansea.

One West Brom fan noted that Mowatt is slower than former Baggies midfielder Gareth Barry, who was notoriously not one of the quickest players.

Others were quick to criticise Mowatt for his “appalling” display, along with several of his underperforming teammates.

Mason’s future at West Brom will rightly come into question once again after another defeat, but the former Tottenham man is being thrown under the bus by his Baggies players at the moment.
