Ryan Mason has thrown Daryl Dike under the bus with Swansea vs West Brom comments
Daryl Dike’s West Brom misery looks set to continue after what Ryan Mason has said.
West Brom fell to another away defeat against Swansea, equalling a club record of nine consecutive losses on the road.
Dike came on in the final stages of that clash, but was unable to make an impact in a three-minute cameo.
The American forward has endured a grim spell at The Hawthorns with injuries ruining his time in the West Midlands, but Mason has not helped.
What did Mason say after West Brom suffer Swansea defeat?
Mason is keen for West Brom to be active in the market, despite the financial issues that they still have to deal with.
The ex-Tottenham coach bemoaned his lack of squad depth after the loss to the Welsh side, claiming that he was not able to change things up.
He said: “It’s a tough game to analyse. We are not able to make changes because of our squad at the moment.
“We came up against a team who made four changes and I think in the first half you could feel the energy difference.”
Why Dike will surely feel aggrieved by Mason’s comments
Dike has worked to get back from two bad Achilles injuries and returned to fitness, and was handed just three minutes against the Swans.
Mason has essentially thrown him under the bus by claiming that he has no options, and he will surely be furious after all he has done to get back into the squad.
- Dike has made 50 appearances for the Baggies since joining in …
- He has scored nine goals and notched two assists
- He has missed 146 games for club and country through injuries in that time
Even if he is not in the manager’s plans and the Black Country club want to sell him, rather than trying to rely on him, and he gets injured again, he still needs more minutes as no club will buy a player with a lack of fitness.
Dike and Josh Maja could provide relief to Aune Heggebo, who has looked like he has been overused in recent weeks, if they were given the chance, but instead the manager insists that he does not have options.
Of course, the squad needs improvement to fire them up the Championship table, but Mason’s comments feel like excuses more than anything else.
