West Brom fans react to latest Carlos Corberan developments – ‘He’ll be sacked before Mason’
Carlos Corberan is in a very similar situation to current West Brom manager Ryan Mason.
Mason is still under huge sack pressure at West Brom, following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Swansea City on New Year’s Day.
The Baggies have dropped down to 18th in the Championship, and fans have completely lost patience with the 34-year-old.
With problems mounting at The Hawthorns, former West Brom boss Corberan is having issues of his own over in Spain.
Carlos Corberan on verge of Valencia sack
Corberan was appointed by West Brom back in October 2022, with the Baggies sitting second bottom in the Championship, and guided them up to ninth by the end of the campaign.
The West Midlands side reached the play-offs in their first full season under the Spaniard, but were beaten by the eventually promoted Southampton in the semi-final.
Midway through the 2024-25 campaign, Corberan left West Brom to join Valencia, where he came through as a player.
After a positive start in Spain, the 42-year-old has struggled badly this season, with his side currently sitting 17th and just one point clear of the relegation zone.
Valencia have won just one of their last 13 La Liga games, and following a 4-1 defeat to Celta Vigo on Saturday, Corberan’s job is now in real danger.
While travelling home from Vigo, Corberan was booed and urged to resign by Valencia fans, with a team coach even having its windows shattered.
One West Brom fan on social media noted that “Corberan is going to get sacked before Mason at this rate.”
West Brom fans disagree over Carlos Corberan return
Corberan was fairly popular among West Brom fans before his exit, and there was understandable disappointment when he decided to leave just over 12 months ago.
Some supporters believe that the Spaniard should be reappointed at The Hawthorns if he is sacked by Valencia.
However, other Baggies fans believe that ship has sailed, adding that it would demonstrate a “lack of planning” if Corberan were to make a return.
Both Corberan and Mason being sacked within the next few weeks remains a very realistic possibility, so the debate around a new manager is unlikely to subside anytime soon.
