Eric Ramsay already in UK as West Brom begin talks to hire Minnesota manager after surprise twist

West Brom have revived their interest in Eric Ramsay to fill their managerial vacancy.

Ramsay was linked with the West Brom job in the summer, but Ryan Mason ended up taking the reins at The Hawthorns.

Mason has now been sacked by the Baggies, leaving Bilkul Football looking for a new man to take the Black Country club forward.

Ramsay looks to be that man, and new developments suggest that he may in the dugout, sooner rather than later.

West Brom set to hire Eric Ramsay?

West Brom have pivoted back to Ramsay, and are keen on bringing him in to try and change their fortunes in the second half of the campaign.

A report from talkWBA on 8 January claimed that Ramsay is already in the UK, despite the MLS pre-season starting next week in a surprise twist.

That was followed by Sky Sports reporting that Albion are now in talks with the Minnesota boss over becoming their next manager.

What is Ramsay’s record at Minnesota?

The ex-Manchester United coach has enjoyed a solid first stint in management with the American side, and is not as inexperienced as Mason.

Ramsay has secured a sixth-place and fourth-place finish in the Western Conference in his two seasons with the Minneapolis-based side.

He has managed a total of 81 matches, with 38 wins, 16 draws and 27 losses in that time, with his side scoring 157 goals and conceding 133.

He boasts a 1.60 points per game ratio, which is considerably better than Mason’s average of 1.15, albeit in an easier league.

It would still be a gamble, but sporting director Andrew Nestor seems certain that his data-led approach is the way to go, and if the 33-year-old comes out on top in the data, he will likely be handed the role.

He needs to be right this time, otherwise, he may come under pressure from supporters if Ramsay proves to be the wrong man.

Albion are not fully out of relegation danger, so it could be a disaster if the former Wales assistant manager comes in and it does not work out.
