Eric Ramsay wants to sign Minnesota United star at West Brom already

West Brom are already starting to outline their January transfer targets with Eric Ramsay.

Shilen Patel settled on Ramsay as Ryan Mason’s successor after a formal announcement was made on Sunday evening.

The Baggies had to pry the former Manchester United first-team coach from MLS side Minnesota United, and the game against Middlesbrough on Friday will be his first match in charge.

West Brom are looking to make signings in the January transfer window, and Ramsay may have already put forward his main wish to Patel.

Eric Ramsay keen on reunion with Minnesota United star Nectar Triantis

West Brom have been linked with multiple midfielders already, leading up to the January window, which is an area that Andrew Nestor would clearly like to upgrade.

According to Daniel Marsh on Monday, West Brom may look at the possibility of signing Nectar Triantis from Minnesota.

Ramsay is said to be keen on reuniting with the midfielder at The Hawthorns, who has previously played in the Championship with Sunderland.

The 22-year-old would provide direct competition with the likes of Jayson Molumby, Alex Mowatt, and Ousmane Diakite.

What could Nectar Triantis offer West Brom?

Triantis is an example of Ramsay’s genius. The midfielder was initially a centre-back when Sunderland signed him back in 2023, but the new Baggies boss insisted on playing Triantis in midfield.

The Greek played for Hibernian on loan last season, and showed glimpses of his ability to play in a defensive midfield role, but it was at Minnesota United where Ramsay got the best out of Triantis.

Triantis only made the move to America in the summer, but under Ramsay, he quickly established himself as a box-to-box midfielder who could efficiently do both sides of the game to a high standard.

The 6,3″ man is a big presence in the centre of the park, and offers a creative threat from deep-lying positions, as well as from set-piece scenarios.

Triantis wouldn’t come cheap, considering he only just signed a long-term deal with the MLS side, but it would be a statement of intent from Patel and Co. to back Ramsay.
