West Brom rivals handed points deduction as Championship relegation fight hit by new bombshell

West Brom’s survival chances may have just been handed an unexpected boost.

It has been a poor season for the Baggies, who currently languish in 22nd place in the Championship.

The Baggies are on their second manager of the season, with Eric Ramsay taking over from Ryan Mason, but the former has yet to truly impress.

Ramsay has been tipped to be sacked, with frontrunners for the West Brom job already emerging.

It is not solely Ramsay’s fault, as Hal Robson-Kanu has pointed the blame towards the ownership for this season’s struggles.

Relegation is looking to be a possibility, but there could be quite a bit of hope yet.

Leicester City handed six-point deduction in the Championship

Those at The Hawthorns will be eagerly looking at the Championship table after news out of the King Power Stadium emerged on Thursday.

Leicester City have been deducted six points for breaking the Premier League’s financial rules in the 2023-2024 season.

Although the punishment was handed down by the independent Disciplinary Commission, the EFL Board met and determined the sanction should be placed on the Foxes in the Championship with immediate effect.

The Championship club has been battling this charge for quite a while, with a hearing back in November taking place.

At this moment, the Foxes do have the ability to appeal the charges and the punishment handed to them. It currently remains to be seen if they will contest the sanction.

Where are Leicester and West Brom in the Championship now?

Leicester City being docked six points has handed more drama to the Championship relegation battle, as it plunges the side firmly into the mix.

Before the sanction, the former Premier League champions had been looking at a mid-table finish, but now they are level on points with West Brom and Blackburn.

Norwich and Portsmouth are not far above either, as they sit just one point above the three sides. Although Pompey do have two games in hand.

The East Midlands club have avoided going below the Baggies due to their goal difference (-5) being better than West Brom’s (-15).

That cushion shows just how tight the margins are at the end of the table.

However, now with another team in the mix in the relegation dogfight, there is added hope for those at the bottom, including West Brom.

The Baggies will have a chance to win three points this Saturday and potentially go above Leicester. Ramsay’s side are at home, as West Brom versus Stoke City has a special kick-off time.
