Jed Wallace to get Eric Ramsay sacked after West Brom vs Coventry City debacle

Jed Wallace endured an afternoon to forget as West Brom slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Coventry City on Saturday.

The Baggies were second best at The Hawthorns on 21 February as Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni sealed all three points for the Championship leaders.

Eric Ramsay has now failed to win his first eight matches in charge of West Brom, and his decision to select Wallace may be the final nail in the coffin.

The 31-year-old has two goals and one assist in 16 appearances in the second tier this season, and the call to bring him into the side could be a fatal one for the manager.

How did Wallace perform in West Brom loss vs Coventry

Wallace has started just seven times in the league, and it was clear to see why in the loss to the Sky Blues.

The veteran winger played 61 minutes against Frank Lampard’s side before he was replaced by Josh Maja.

It was a dismal performance, as he earned a 6.4 rating from Sofascore, as he recorded four crosses with none hitting one of his own men.

Another damning stat was the fact that he had just one shot, a desperate effort that went miles wide on the stroke of half-time.

He completed 73 per cent of his 22 pass attempts, with a 67 per cent success rate when it came to passes in the opposition half.

Wallace had just 38 touches, and lost possession a total of 15 times, struggling to influence the contest in the way that Ramsay would have hoped.

Finally, he made 15 carries with the ball, but only three were progressive, as he recorded a total carrying distance of 157.4m.

Therefore, he struggled to pass the ball forward and carry it, which meant he was extremely ineffective on the right flank, and a huge reason why the attack stalled once again, which could spell trouble for the boss.

Mikey Johnston would have been the better option

Mikey Johnston was left on the bench and only came on in the 61st minute, replacing Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba, which should be regarded as a debacle.

He has already notched two goals and nine assists in the league so far this season, so he would surely have been the better choice.

In the contest, the Irishman completed 82 per cent of his 11 pass attempts, and 86 per cent of his seven passes in the opposition half.

He also completed four progressive carries of the eight total that he attempted, for a total carrying distance of 142.5m.

That suggests that he would have had a much better impact than Wallace had he started, rather than coming on with just 29 minutes left to play.

The decision may well see Ramsay sacked.
