West Brom new manager latest as favourites emerge and likely next step laid out after Eric Ramsay sack

West Brom could be set to appoint their fifth manager in the space of 13 months.

West Brom’s 1-1 draw at home to Charlton was one step too far for Eric Ramsay, who was sacked at The Hawthorns after just 44 days in charge.

The former Minnesota boss was sacked as a result of his failure to win a single game after taking over from Ryan Mason in January.

Following their two failed spells, as well as those of James Morrison and Tony Mowbray, it means that the Baggies are potentially on the lookout for their fifth different manager since last January, with a few names already in the running for the job.

Sean Dyche among leading candidates for West Brom job

If West Brom are to avoid relegation from the Championship this season, they need someone with a wealth of experience to come in and install the principles that have been lacking.

Sean Dyche, having been in management since 2011, has that in abundance, and he is the third-favourite to take over at The Hawthorns.

Ahead of him is former Southampton and Rangers boss, Russell Martin, as well as Morrison, who has already had two spells in charge as interim boss.

Martin was sacked at Rangers after winning just one of his seven league games in charge of the Light Blues.

Prior to that, he was sacked at Southampton after failing to build on their promotion back to the Premier League.

What is likely to happen next at West Brom?

While Dyche and Martin may be genuine candidates for the job, the likelihood is that the Baggies will look to hire an interim boss until the end of the season.

And as things stand, that is looking increasingly likely to be Morrison.

The 39-year-old has been with Albion since 2007, having moved into a coaching role in 2019.

Morrison has already had two spells in charge of West Brom, albeit for just three games, with one win and two draws in that period.

He knows the club more than any of the other candidates, which may be what the Baggies need to avoid the drop into League One at the end of the current campaign.
