Ousmane Diakite’s contract set to expire: Update on talks, what he earns and more
Ousmane Diakite’s contract with West Brom is set to expire in the summer.
Diakite has featured 29 times for the Baggies this season, out of a possible 34 matches, with 19 starts and 10 appearances off the bench.
West Brom have struggled to see the best form of the 25-year-old, but that is not necessarily a fair assessment, given the chaos at the B71 club.
However, The Hawthorns side will be confident of keeping the Malian midfielder because of a specific clause within his current contract.

What do the stats say about Diakite?
Diakite has notched one goal and failed to grab a single assist this season, but that is not a surprise given his role as a holding player.
In 27 league matches, he has averaged one interception per match, 4.44 recoveries per game and 1.33 tackles per game, per Sofascore.

In terms of duels, he has won a total of 3.89 per game, which works out at a 55.6 per cent success rate, a solid return from the midfielder.
Why West Brom don’t need to hold talks with Diakite
There really doesn’t need to be any talks over a new contract yet, as the Baggies hold the option to extend Diakite’s deal by a further year.
Whether they take that up remains to be seen, so he could leave on a free after 30 June 2026, if they decide not to.
Albion are probably calm about the situation because the option can be triggered, which would keep him in the Black Country until summer 2027.
What does Diakite earn at West Brom?
Diakite is understood to be on around £7,500-per-week with the Baggies at the moment, which would make him one of the lowest earners in the first-team squad.
For comparison, Nat Phillips is considered the highest earner in the West Midlands, with a weekly pay packet of approximately £40,000-per-week.
If the Baggies can extend the former TSV Hartberg man, on the same wage as he is on now, that seems like a logical decision for Shilen Patel and Co.
Why West Brom should extend Diakite
It makes perfect sense for the Throstles to extend Diakite, as they would then pick up a fee if they decide to sell him.
Given their financial situation, they cannot afford to lose too many players on free transfers and not earn any money.
Then, if they decide that the 25-year-old can kick on and become a valuable player in the squad, he is tied down.
