West Bromwich Albion may fear for the future of Jayson Molumby if they are relegated this season.

The Baggies are in the midst of a relegation battle in the Championship and are also at risk of a points deduction for a potential financial breach.

Even with the work of James Morrison to turn the tide in the Black Country, it may not be enough to avoid a drop into League One.

That could spell bad news for some key players at The Hawthorns who may see their future away from the third tier.

What is Jayson Molumby’s contract situation at West Brom?

The Republic of Ireland international has been one of the better players in a dismal season for the Midlands outfit.

He has featured in a majority of fixtures for the Albion and has certainly played a role in the recent upturn in form.

His performances in the middle of the park have left many supporters impressed, alongside Ousmane Diakate, who has become somewhat of an unsung hero.

That makes the uncertain position of The Hawthorns outfit all the more frustrating, as Molumby could soon depart despite his contract running until 2028.

He agreed to new terms just 13 months ago and committed his future to the Baggies on a three-year deal.

The Irishman is reportedly paid £20,000 a week as part of that fresh contract, equating to a yearly salary of just over £1million.

Molumby has been important for West Brom recently, but could still find himself on the way out if his side are relegated following a possible points deduction.

When could Molumby leave West Brom?

If Albion do face relegation and drop into League One, it feels increasingly unlikely that the midfielder will come with them.

He has made 178 appearances for West Brom and has also featured regularly for the likes of Millwall and Preston in the Championship.

That sort of experience is bound to entice a second-tier side to swoop in and sign the Irishman if he faces relegation this season.

With a potential points deduction in the pipeline, an imminent exit could be in the pipeline for Molumby as soon as the summer window opens.

If Morrison can keep his side in the Championship, the midfielder is more likely to stick around.
