WEST BROM TRANSFER NEWS:
Deals In Progress, Targets, Signings, Contracts & Exit Updates
West Brom transfer activity depends on Championship survival
West Brom will undoubtedly look to be active in the summer transfer window, especially with five first-team players out of contract in the summer, and the likes of Charlie Taylor approaching the end of his loan deal. But, with their Championship status unclear, the Baggies will have to play a bit of a wait-and-see game before making serious moves in the market.
- Scenario A: West Brom secure their safety in the second tier, and can start looking at higher-calibre signings with the aim of competing higher up the table next season.
- Scenario B: The Baggies suffer relegation and have to rethink their transfer strategy to build a squad capable of making an immediate escape out of League One.
Scenario B is a scenario that no supporter really would have thought would be on the radar last August, but the reality is that – as much as we all want to think about who can arrive in the summer – the immediate priority is the battle against the drop.
Who has previously been linked with West Brom?
We’re nearly three months beyond the January transfer window now, but there were a few high-profile rumours during the winter market. Sheffield Wednesday’s versatile midfielder Svante Ingelsson was among those linked with The Hawthorns, but the Owls retain an option on the Swede’s contract, which means a fee may have to be negotiated if this one is to be revisited at the end of the season.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – coincidentally, once of Wednesday, too – was another heavily linked with a move to the Black Country back in January. The Nigeria international is currently with Serie A side Lazio and any move, you sense, would be entirely dependent on West Brom retaining their Championship status. Even then, it might be a deal that is out of reach for Albion.
Kyle McAdam, currently on loan at Northampton Town from Nottingham Forest, and Rangers midfielder Bailey Rice have also drawn reported interest from West Brom, but it is not yet clear how concrete those rumours are.
Who could leave West Brom this summer?
In terms of outgoings at The Hawthorns, once again it may depend on which division Albion find themselves playing in next season.
As things stand, the likes of Josh Maja, Karlan Grant, and Daryl Dike are all out of contract in the next few months, and given the issues with fitness and form all have endured during their time at West Brom, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that all three depart for pastures new.
That would mean that whoever is it at the helm next season might have a job on their hands to try and replenish the Baggies’ attacking options.
