West Brom in last-ditch approach to sign Sheffield Wednesday star as Portsmouth move breaks down
West Brom are looking into a late permanent move for Sheffield Wednesday attacking midfielder Svante Ingelsson.
The Baggies aren’t done with their winter transfer business just yet, and Shilen Patel could be set for more spending.
West Brom secured the signing of Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba on deadline day, but it seems Albion are still working on several deals behind the scenes.
Ingelsson is one of them, with Patel making it his mission to help Eric Ramsay in a push for stability in the Championship.
West Brom ready to spend £500,000 for Svante Ingelsson
Joe Wildsmith is looking likely to join Middlesbrough in the final hours of the window, with Albion already set for the season in the goalkeeping department.
The Baggies could finalise his and some youth stars’ exits before the deadline, but internal figures at West Brom are still hoping for new additions.
According to Alan Nixon‘s Patreon update on Monday, West Brom have made a late surprise inquiry for Ingelsson.
Albion could splash £500,000 on the Swede, but it’s said that a big contract would also be needed to bring the attacking midfielder to The Hawthorns.

Ingelsson has attracted plenty of interest this window, but has put moves to Portsmouth and Millwall on hold due to personal reasons, with his partner set to give birth very soon.
West Brom fans will love the prospect of beating off Portsmouth’s interest for Ingelsson, as his potential signing could even help the Baggies leapfrog them in a relegation scrap this season.

There’s a clear reason why Ingelsson is what Eric Ramsay needs
Ingelsson isn’t just attracting interest from multiple Championship clubs for no reason; he’s been performing well for the Owls when you consider the crisis they are currently going through.
He offers versatility in attack, as well as in deep-lying midfield positions, and has racked up over 2,300 minutes for Henrik Pedersen’s side already this campaign.

The 27-year-old was a key playmaker for Danny Rohl last season, picking up five assists and averaging 2.55 tackles per game.
He knows that it takes when it comes to a relegation scrap, and can offer Ramsay support at both ends of the field.
