James Morrison has proved he should be permanent manager after latest West Brom reveal

James Morrison has definitely made his case to be appointed as the next permanent West Bromwich Albion manager.

The 39-year-old replaced Eric Ramsay in the dugout in February, and the club made the decision to give him the interim role until the end of the season.

That may well end up keeping The Hawthorns side in the Championship, as the former fan favourite has made an immediate impact.

His team are unbeaten in their last eight matches, which has them sitting in 20th place in the second tier, five points from safety.

Morrison has tightened up West Brom at the back, and his attackers seem to finally be finding their feet, too, when it matters.

What is so impressive about Morrison’s interim West Brom stint?

West Brom have suffered just one defeat since sacking Ramsay, which is remarkable considering that they had 17 before that.

They had a dismal away record, losing 10 games in a row, which equalled a club record, but Morrison has arrested that, with two wins in their last three on the road.

His side have kept five clean sheets in their last six matches, which is arguably the most impressive aspect of the reveal.

Why he has to be handed the job

Some may argue that he is too inexperienced and too young, but we have seen plenty of young managers succeed at the highest level.

The Scotland international knows the club inside out, having played … times for them and then managed them ijn three interim spells, including the current one.

He clearly has the ability to get the players up for the fight, and the tactical nous to make it work, and potentially push the squad on to bigger things.

If he is backed in the transfer market, with PSR not expected to be as much of an issue for the 2026-27 campaign, then there is no telling how far he can take them.

It would be much less of a risk than appointing someone who does not know the club and would come in blind.

The supporters love him, and he loves the club, it seems like a no-brainer, especially given how he has the players performing in such a crucial moment.

He has proven that he has what it takes.
