West Brom maintain Mikey Johnston hope as Championship survival secured
West Bromwich Albion will have faith that Mikey Johnston will stay at The Hawthorns this summer.
Things had been going wrong for the Baggies well beforehand, but Johnston’s season-ending injury certainly did them no favours.
The Irish international was so often the player that they looked towards for a moment of quality to win a game, which was lacking in his absence.
As relegation fears grew stronger, there was a feeling that he may have played his final game for the Baggies, having been the subject of interest over the last 12 months.
However, with West Brom having secured safety in the Championship after their goalless draw at home to Ipswich, those fears may well have been subdued.

Mikey Johnston importance still clear after reveal
Despite having been out of action since February, only Aune Heggebo has more goals and assists than Johnston, who has 11 in the Championship.
That demonstrates the level of importance that he holds in the final third, having assisted nine goals in the Championship.
| West Brom | Goals and assists |
| Aune Heggebo | 13 |
| Isaac Price | 11 |
| Mikey Johnston | 11 |
| George Campbell | 6 |
While it may take some time to recover from his injury, his quality will still be there, and it should be something that James Morrison looks to build around next season.

An exit would have been nailed on if West Brom suffered relegation, but with that outcome now avoided, there seems very little reason to fear for that.
What is Johnston’s contract situation?
Fortunately for Albion, the ball is also in their court with Johnston’s future given the fact that he is under contract until 2028.
He will have two years left on his deal come the end of the season, meaning they will be under no pressure to move him on.
Of course, signing more quality to better complement his style of play, and perhaps reduce the weight on his shoulders, should be a priority, but his return next season will bring plenty of positives.
