Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion bring their respective seasons to a close on Saturday as they lock horns at Hillsborough.

Both clubs sit close in the standings, though the stories heading into the clash in South Yorkshire could hardly be more different.

The Baggies secured their safety last week, with James Morrison’s side taking a fantastic 10-match unbeaten run into the final day.

Wednesday, however, saw their season ravaged by an 18-point deduction, while Henrik Pedersen was left with a desperately thin squad heading into the campaign.

With an in-form West Brom side coming to town, both teams will be looking to end their season on a high at Hillsborough.

Embarking on a sensational run, his West Brom side have been resolute defensively, while the switch to a 4-4-2 formation has brought the best out of his attacking talent.

Heading into the weekend, the latest prediction from Opta’s supercomputer has made the Baggies firm favourites.

Given a 53 per cent chance of victory, Albion could be set to inflict further damage on an already relegated Wednesday side, whose points tally still stands at minus three going into the final day.

West Brom can enter new season on a high

Just a matter of months ago, it would have been difficult for many of the Black Country faithful to have foreseen a turnaround like the one that has taken place under Morrison.

Dismal spells under Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay left the club languishing near the bottom end of the table, while the squad looked completely downtrodden.

Now, the former midfielder has had ample time to assess the tools available to him ahead of what will hopefully be a summer rebuild at The Hawthorns.

Carrying a remarkable run, the chance to take that momentum into the new season, alongside the positive energy gained, is staring the Baggies in the face.

And as they make the trip to a Wednesday side winless since October, the travelling Albion contingent will be in good spirits, with what will hopefully be a party atmosphere in the May sun.
